Linda Lieff Altabef, the Creator of 4PlayTM

Linda Leiff Altabef

Linda is both a professional artist, and a highly experienced teacher. Linda has focused on teaching art from the pre-school level up through university classes.

In the past decade she has increasingly sought to bring her experiential approach to art teaching – focusing on creativity more than on technical skills – into the realm of learning for children with learning disabilities.

Linda strongly believes that many children with differentiated learning needs are highly talented, but cannot learn by the more conventional methods that traditional education, and even traditional special education employ.

While 4PlayTM was initially conceived as an interactive musical sculpture, Linda quickly realized that its greatest value was as a teaching tool.

She has used 4PlayTM with the special education class of 9 to 12 year olds to whom she was teaching English, and the results were amazing.

Students succeeded in quickly becoming comfortable with the instrument, and as a result, were willing to work as a group to accomplish the goal of playing songs. They learned many English words and expressions and spoke in English throughout the exercise.

And because they were having fun and experiencing success, they were willing to work together and make room for their classmates.
